Safety
Safety for all road users
At Scania, we continuously work to improve the safety of our vehicles. For our drivers as well as their fellow road users. As their challenges vary, so do our solutions in adding new perspectives on safety.
High crash standards
The structure of Scania’s entire cab range offers outstanding crash performance and includes structural integrity, instrument positioning and dispersion of impact forces. It also significantly reduces the risk of a car ending up under the vehicle in the event of a collision. Swedish crash test standards are among the most stringent in the world. Our new generation has surpassed them with ease and the new cab structure offer an outstanding crash performance.
Side curtain airbags
Scania’s roll-over airbag targets one of the most serious consequences of rollover accidents, where drivers or passengers are injured in a collision or fatally crushed by their own vehicle. Available in Scania’s P, G, R, L and S-cabs as well as in the CrewCab.
Immediate response
Scania brake pads consist of a unique friction material optimised for the patented alloy in the brake disc, which ensures maximum service life with consistent braking behavior. Enhanced brake callipers, allied with improved brake actuation and the more advanced position of the front axle, greatly improve the braking distance of the Scania trucks.
See it before it happens
A Scania cab offers unobstructed and panoramic views of the front and sides. Slimmer A-pillars, lower side windows and instrument panel contribute to enhanced visibility for the driver. During the darker hours the night lighting function can be used to avoid reflections and other disturbances. High-mounted spot lamps are incorporated into the sun shield, while auxiliary lighting includes fog and spot lamps for adverse weather conditions. Different levels of camera systems are available for added safety, visibility and convenience.
Side detection
Side Detection increases safety on all roads with sensors that detect objects in blind spots. In risky situations, the LEDs in the A-pillars will light up to alert the driver. The driver is hereby always aware of the surroundings.
City safe window
Located low down in the passenger door, the heated City Safe Window offers a clear view of what’s going on alongside the vehicle. Available for the P- and L-series, it provides outstanding direct visibility, reducing the risk of damage and accidents while enabling more efficient driving without compromising safety.
Area view HD 360° camera system
Our Area View Camera System helps you get a clear view of every situation. With four wide-angle 720p HD cameras that work together to cover the front, rear and sides of the vehicle, you’ll have full 360° visibility in every direction.
Driver support
On the dashboard the drivers receive live feedback from Scania's Driver Support tool, showing drivers how braking, acceleration and gear-shifting affect fuel consumption and road safety.
Electronic stability programme (ESP)
Scania ESP (electronic stability program) greatly increases driving safety by monitoring key stability parameters and automatically triggering appropriate controls. Emergency situations or inappropriate speed can sometimes result in vehicle instability. This is especially hazardous for tractor-semitrailer combinations, where even momentary loss of driver control could have disastrous and very expensive consequences. Scania ESP is designed to work on wet or slippery roads, where under- or oversteering often occurs, and on dry roads, where the main risk is a roll-over resulting from excessive speed or adverse camber on bends.
Adaptive cruise control (ACC)
With ACC, a minimum cruise distance can be manually set by the driver. The truck will then maintain your cruising speed until you catch up with a slower vehicle; it’ll then slow down the truck to match the other vehicles speed, keeping the pre-set gap between you. When traffic clears in front of you, it’ll resume your chosen cruising speed. It’s cruise control made safer and easier.
