Ingela has a strong focus on a safe work environment

8 FEBRUARY 2024

Meet our colleague Ingela Ståhl - with great interest and commitment to work environment issues.

- I am very grateful that I have had the privilege of working as a work environment coordinator. It's a big area of work and an important role to work in many ways for a safe work environment, she says.

In September 2023, Ingela took over as work environment coordinator within SHE (safety, health and environment), where her main task is to support the systematic work environment management. It's been an interesting start for her.

- I spend a lot of time out in the business, watching, learning, taking courses and trying to capture what the various operations need support with. It is important to create dialogue and networks.

When the position appeared, Ingela immediately saw a great opportunity to be able to develop, take on new challenges and spread the knowledge she had gathered over the years. She appreciates the great support she received, especially from her Group manager and Workshop manager, but also from others which encourage her to dare to take this step.

- My new colleagues at SPS and everyone in the operations have also, by sharing their knowledge, made it easier for me to get into the new role.

Ingela's journey at Scania Oskarshamn started in 1995 when she started as an assembler at IB-Line (the dashboard line).

What was it like to come to such a large workplace?
- Early on, I saw opportunities for development and that the company invests in its staff. I enjoyed my work and we had fun together and a good team spirit.

After 20 years in the Assembly workshop, she was looking for new challenges. From Assembly, she took the step to become a Teamleader at Logistics in the Body Shop.

- It was new to me, I hadn't even been in a forklift before, but I got the chance to develop further. I was then asked to start in the production in the Body Shop. It was a new challenge to work with robots, but I have a drive to constantly want to learn something new.

Ingela has always been passionate about work environment issues and working proactively to prevent things that could become a serious incident if not addressed. In the systematic work environment management, she works together with various support functions.

- It is important to work closely with the organisation in order to be able to act and analyse deviations in the work environment area. It is important to always keep in mind that we are each other's work environment and strive for a sustainable work environment at all levels. We are very good at Scania following our guidelines, but we need to step up on certain issues. Above all, we need to focus more on soft values.

Ingela is also part of the local working group that works for equality, inclusion and diversity.

- We need to work strategically to ensure that we take gender equality, inclusion and diversity into account in everything we do. It should be a natural part of our daily work. Scania should be a workplace for everyone, Ingela concludes.
