Scania NZ celebrates 5th anniversary.

Media Release Monday 19th February 2024

Fifth birthdays are usually associated with tentative beginnings and nervous steps into a big new world…

unless you’re the leading Heavy Truck brand in New Zealand.

As Scania New Zealand celebrates the fifth anniversary of its official brand presence in Aotearoa, it’s simultaneously enjoying its fourth consecutive year of being #1 in New Zealand market share for Heavy Trucks.

Early team member and current Pre-Sales & Logistics Director, Rob Covich, says:

“The achievement is proof Scania hit the ground running when it established itself here, and the leadership team’s focus on customers-first, a nation-wide service network and extensive aftersales care proved a winning formula that is still delivering today.”

Further impressive figures from Scania’s first five years of operation (2019-2023) in NZ include:

                                    2019                2023

Trucks sold
                 239                  645

Service Centres          1                      22

Trucks serviced          11                    22,256

Scania staff/team      3                      281

Other key examples of Scania’s ‘growth by the numbers’ are:

·         Current Scania Fleet on NZ roads   - 2905

·         Distance driven by Scania trucks on NZ roads in 5 years -  1.4billion

·         Years as #1 brand for Market Share of Heavy Trucks in NZ  –  4  (2020/21/22/23)

New Scania NZ managing director, Victor Carvalho, says while the stats and achievements are impressive and well-earned, they also serve as a yardstick from which to build and improve.

“To this end, imminent investments for Scania include two additional Service Centres to come on-line this year in Invercargill & Hastings, with a further three or four more planned in the next three years, along with some major refurbishment plans for existing sites.  We also hope to announce a strategic property acquisition soon with an eye to future proofing our service centre network.

“Plus our ongoing development of technology platforms will continue to play an important role in creating efficiencies, not just in Scania New Zealand’s business but also in our clients’ businesses,” says Carvalho.

“Here’s to another equally successful and transformative five years!”
