Peck Tiong Choon is first in Singapore to power ahead with the Scania V8 engine with 770 horsepower

SINGAPORE – Scania Singapore has delivered the most powerful truck in its range to the Peck Tiong Choon group of companies. The Scania R770 truck, featuring the first-ever V8 engine in Singapore to have the highest-possible 770 horsepower, was handed over at a ceremony earlier this week.

“We are pleased to support Peck Tiong Choon’s operations with a truck that promises heavy-duty power, high performance, superb driveability, and excellent fuel efficiency,” said Ms Zoe Cheng, Regional Manager of Scania Singapore. “No other truck compares to it as the Scania V8 engine with 770 horsepower is still the strongest commercially produced truck engine in the world.”

At 770 horsepower, the new truck delivers an impressive maximum torque of 3,700 Nm, capable of hauling up to 250 tonnes. The eight-cylinder V8 engine, built in a V-configuration with four cylinders on each side, works with the Scania Opticruise gearbox to reduce fuel consumption for the truck.

“The Scania truck, which is favoured by many in the industry, was our choice when we wanted to power up our operations to transport very heavy cargo,” said Mr Pay Teow Seng, Managing Director of Peck Tiong Choon Transport Pte Ltd and Peck Tiong Choon Logistics Pte Ltd. “This is the latest addition to our fleet of Scania trucks, which have proven to be reliable and efficient. Most importantly, they benefit from great after-sales and parts support to reduce our fleet downtime and support our operations.”

To ensure its new truck will operate at peak performance and availability, Peck Tiong Choon has signed a repair and maintenance contract at Scania’s workshops. According to Mr Pay, the new Scania R770 truck will be used to haul heavy construction cargo such as steel structures, beams and machinery.

Established since 1955, Peck Tiong Choon provides transportation and lifting, logistics and warehousing, and leasing services. It operates a fleet of about 250 light to heavy vehicles to support the infrastructure, construction, marine, freight-forwarding and government sectors in Singapore.
