XT gearbox range
Our comprehensive gearbox range can be adapted to all types of transport. For improved driveability, our 8- and 12-speed gearboxes can be fitted with Scania Opticruise and Scania Retarder. For demanding operations with high GTW, the heavy-duty gearbox G25 and G33 delivers higher output torque for the ultimate control in the toughest terrains.

Range-change gearboxes
8-speed
The virtue of this gearbox lies in its simplicity. Rugged and compact, there are no crawler ratios and the smooth, positive action makes gearchanging easy. Options include Scania Opticruise, Scania Retarder and a selection of power take-offs.
8+1-speed
This gearbox offers similar advantages, together with an extra crawler ratio. Based on a 4-speed box, plus a planetary section, its strength is more than a match for the high-torque output of any Scania inline engine. Options include Scania Retarder and a selection of power take-offs.
Range-splitter gearboxes
12-speed
This gearbox is built to tackle the most challenging terrain, making it the perfect choice for demanding long-haulage. Its closely stepped ratios combine light weight with ease of driving with exceptional operating economy.
12+2-speed
For applications that demand extra low-speed pulling power, this gearbox has two extra crawler ratios. Designed for optimised economy, it has proved highly successful for both long-distance and regional distribution, as well as heavy construction applications. The overdrive versions offer higher torque capacity, plus overdrive for low and economic cruising revs. Scania Opticruise and Scania Retarder, as well as a selection of power take-offs, are available for all range-splitter gearboxes.
Opticruise gearbox
The heavy-duty gearbox range is the industry’s leading gearbox choice for operations that demand higher output torque, superior startability and fast axle gearing with high payloads in tough operating terrains.
Scania’s commitment to improving your total operating economy is enhanced through a world-leading gearbox that delivers superior fuel efficiency, driveability and the ability to deliver a seamless transfer of power in even the toughest driving scenarios.
In addition to significantly lower noise emissions, it is also our engineered as our most robust gearbox yet giving you more time on the road and fewer maintenance stops through an extended oil change interval.
Opticruise's fully automated clutch operation, with the option to select an additional clutch for enhanced manoeuvrability if required, enables precision manoeuvring and an adaptive shifting strategy tailored to your operations, such as payload and road gradient. This gives you faster and smoother shifts, as well as excellent comfort and control in every driving situation.
The introduction of a wider and more efficient 14-speed gear range, including super-crawler and overdrive options, means off-road transport operators no longer have to compromise between excellent startability and impressive fuel efficiency. This is complemented by the option of up to 8 reverse gears for improved reverse versatility across all operation types.
Driveability
Better driveability is achieved with a wider gear ratio spread, which includes super crawler and overdrive, that match Scania’s low rev engine philosophy.
Reversing
Instead of a reversing gear, a planetary gear is used for reversing. This solution enables having eight gears for going in reverse at speeds up to 30 km/h. (This is useful when, for instance, tipper trucks need to reverse for long distances.)
Retarder
The retarder on the G33 has also been updated and improved and can now deliver 4700 Nm torque at a propeller shaft speed below 600 rpm.
PTO
With the Scania Opticruise gearbox, a new PTO programme with nine different performance steps is introduced. Higher torque and gear ratio improves the overall performance of bodywork equipment. Lower noise levels and reduced fuel consumption is the result of higher gear ratio, which allows lower engine speeds.
Rear axle gears
Scania’s rear axle range offers a robust and weight optimised design with a wide variety of gears and ratios, so you can find the optimal solution for your operation. All gears are offered with differential locks.
Single driven single reduction
Our gears for single reduction have low complexity and high efficiency and can master gross vehicle and train weights up to 78 tonnes with a wide range of gear ratios from 1.95 up to 5.57.
Single driven hub reduction
The single driven hub reduction axles are offered for the operations where startability, ground clearance and high gross train weights are favourable. They manage gross vehicle and train weights up to 80 tonnes with gear ratios from 3.80 up to 7.18.
Tandem driven single reduction
Tandem driven single reduction is offered for operations where you require traction together with optimal fuel efficiency. The RB662 + R660 tandem gear masters gross vehicle and train weights up to 80 tonnes with gear ratios from 2.92 up to 4.88.
Tandem driven single hub reduction
Our broad tandem driven hub reduction axles are robust and durable and offers great startability and ground clearance. It masters extremely high gross vehicles and train weights to up to 210 tonnes with gear ratios from 3.52 up to 7.63.
Scania modular architecture chassis
Your workhorses need a chassis configuration which can withstand even the toughest challenges of the field. The outstandingly versatile and robust Scania Modular Architecture Chassis and tank range is custom made to deliver on those demands. This gives you more opportunities to specify and operate your Scania truck in a way that is truly tailor-made for your business, as well as improving your chassis load distribution, payload potential and even operative range.
At the heart of XT
Being part of a production chain means always depending on others, just as others will always depend on you. With the high torque-to-horsepower ratio of all Scania engines, the XT range is prepared for any mission ahead. From the lightweight 7-litre engine all the way to the famous Scania V8, we offer a wide range of engine alternatives.
Empowered engines
Scania engines are known for their fuel efficiency. Our trucks take our reputation a step further. Improved injectors, combustion chambers and rear axle ratio, all contributes to reducing both engine speed and cutting fuel consumption by 3%.
