Graham Broughton takes on iconic challenge for charity
TruckEast Director, Graham Broughton gets ready to Ride across Britain this September, in a bid to fundraise for UK Charity – Alzheimer’s Society.
Testing the mind and body in an endurance challenge like no other, the Deloitte Ride across Britain covers a total of 980 miles, from the rolling hills of Cornwall to the vast sweeping landscapes of Scotland.
The scenic yet demanding route starts on 4th September and lasts nine days. Graham, alongside his son and hundreds of other riders will set off from Land’s End and pass iconic locations such as St Michael’s Mount, Cheddar Gorge, the Lecht and Forth Bridge. But it’s not just the miles that they’ll be clocking up; the challenge means a total ascent of 52,529 ft. To put it into context, Everest Summit is 29,032 ft. so it isn’t going to be a smooth ride.
This is one challenge not to be attempted on a whim and Graham has demonstrated his commitment with his ten month training programme already underway as he aims to reach his fundraising target of £4,400.
“Quite possibly the hardest thing I have ever, or will ever do, the Ride across Britain is going to be like nothing before. But as with every challenge I’ve been a part of, I’m not just doing this to push myself physically and mentally. It’s to raise money for a worthy cause. And in this case one close to my heart, Alzheimer’s Society. I can tell you first hand this is not a disease that only affects the old, and any donation, no matter how small, will contribute to making a difference to someone’s life” explains Graham.
