Delivering Christmas across the nation
As Christmas light switch on traditions take place across the country, stop and take a moment to think about the trees – not the amount of lights adorning them or how beautiful they are but how these two tonne evergreens make their way around the country to end up on display in your local town or city.
One of the organisations that helps to make that happen is specialist transport company MGT. “We transport around thirty large trees all over the country each year, some of them over 50ft,” says Matt Gregory, Managing Director. With the mighty power of their R520 V8 combined with the 18 metre reach of a PM65TM crane on the back, the whopping trees are easily transported and lifted off the truck to be placed in the perfect position. “The deliveries always draw in a crowd, they love to know where the trees have come from and how long they take to grow,” he explains. “Christmas trees tend to grow around a foot per year, so some of these deliveries are trees over 50 years old,” continues Matt.
Unlike most, for Matt, Christmas deliveries are usually all finished before December to ensure the lights are ready to be switched on in time! One of their most recent deliveries was to the Leadenhall Building in London ready to get visitors to their Christmas market in the festive spirit. The Leadenhall Christmas Market will be open for Christmas shopping on Saturday 8th and 15th December including plenty of festive entertainment.
