Scania highlights the importance of apprenticeships at the ‘Sweden on Tour’ event in Manchester
On Tuesday 4 June 2019 the Swedish Embassy’s ‘#SwedenOnTour’ event reached Manchester, where His Excellency Torbjörn Sohlström, the Ambassador of Sweden to the UK, met Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham and local industry- and technology-leaders to discuss Anglo-Swedish business relationships, challenges and future development potential.
Among the speakers at the event was Martin Hay, Managing Director of Scania (Great Britain) Limited, the principal sponsor of #SwedenOnTour, who set out Scania’s commitment to long-term sustainability and highlighted the need to attract new talent into the transport industry. Reinforcing the sentiments Scania recently expressed in an open letter to Government Ministers, Martin Hay commented, "Apprentices are an especially high priority for us as these young men and women very much represent the future of our industry."
Following the business forum, the Scania Interlink coach which is transporting the Swedish Embassy team around the UK travelled from the Greater Manchester Combined Authority's base in Oxford Street, Central Manchester to the city's Exchange Square where a ‘pop-up embassy' opened to the public. The purpose of the pop-up embassy, which is currently touring the UK, is to reach out from the embassy's London headquarters to UK citizens and Swedes around the country.
