MAKING DRIVERS HAPPY WITH THE NEXT GEN SCANIA

Sephton Transport has doubled the size of its fleet with the addition of six next generation S 580 Scania tractor units. Choosing these trucks was an easy decision for Managing Director, Phil Sephton, who test drove the new Scania range at the vehicle launch in Sweden last year.

“I was very impressed. One thing that really stood out was the superior gear change of the new models. It was really smooth and showed the quality of the new Scania product,” says Phil. “We’ve got 11 tractor units now, and all of them are Scania trucks.”

Maximising driver appeal was also one of the key reasons for choosing the next gen vehicles, and feedback from Sephton Transport’s drivers has already confirmed this. “They love the space, comfort and driving performance. Having happy drivers is really important to us and means they’ll deliver first class service for our customers,” adds Phil.

Sephton Transport was formed in 2000 and attributes its steady business growth to a willingness to listen to the needs of their customers, and this reputation for delivering great service is now really paying off. The company has recently opened a new site on the Burscough Industrial Estate in Lancashire, which will be used as its main distribution centre for the fresh produce they collect and deliver all across the UK.

The six next gen Scania trucks were supplied by Haydock Commercials Vehicles, with Phil Sephton confirming that his company has a great relationship with their local dealership. “Everyone at Haydock really looks after us and if we ever have a problem, they solve it for us, and quickly. We can rely on them completely and that means a lot in our business.”

Looking ahead, Phil sees the ongoing shortage of drivers as a key issue for the industry, and one that is not going to be resolved easily. The six new Scanias will not only help retain his key staff, but also encourage others to join what is obviously a winning team. As well as offering the highest spec cabs in the industry, the V8 engines in Sephton’s latest trucks will undoubtedly deliver the highest possible standards of performance and reliability along with the very best future residual value.
