South West Coaches is catapulting its business into a new era with a brace of brand new Scania K410 4x2 Interlink coaches for touring across Europe.
Taken on Scania Financial Services’ (SFS) three-year operating leases arranged by SFS Area Sales Manager Bob Winfield with GAP insurance to protect the investment, these are the first new coaches the Somerset company has bought in a long and successful history.
South West Coaches operates both public service vehicles and coaches across Somerset, Dorset and Wiltshire as well as touring coaches that is now represented by a combined fleet of around 100 vehicles.
Commercial director Steve Caine, who gave SFS a five-star testimonial for its service, said the delivery of the new vehicles has brought with them a real sense of pride throughout the company.
“In the past we have used high quality used vehicles, usually bought on hire purchase, but we decided it was time to move forward, both for our business and for our customers.
“The market is changing and we are looking to new business with tour providers who have certain parameters, such as on age and specification. Investing in new vehicles opens up our business opportunities.
“We currently operate over 150 day excursions and between 30-35 holidays each year utilising our existing client base of around 5,000 customers. We work with a number of tour providers and feel that the new Scanias will open some new doors for future business.
“Reliability plays a huge part in operating a large fleet of vehicles and the reassurance of new vehicles with warranties and Scania’s GAP insurance which is a really useful thing to have in the event of theft or fire and offers peace of mind to all here at South West Coaches.
“There is a lot of change in the industry and at the end of the day leasing is becoming more beneficial in the way we operate and move forward – after all, these coaches will be clocking up around 60,000 miles a year.”
He added: “Our drivers appreciate the modern safety features such as adaptive cruise control and lane assist, and our customers like details such as USB sockets and the level of comfort and trim.
“It’s very early days however with the professionalism of all of our employees, our drive and commitment to succeed, we feel this may well be the way we would like our purchasing to continue,” he added.
