Next Generation Scania has a special meaning for haulage contractor David Brown who’s really enjoying being one of the first proud owners in the UK to be running the new Scania XT tipper in something of a flagship operation.
Because his son Peter, 19, is following in his tyre marks and loves the new G500 XT. But so far as Dad’s concerned, it’s “hands off!” – “He drives it but he’s got his own Scania G360 tipper, also an eight-wheeler, that’s getting the personal touch,” laughed David.
An owner-driver for 29 years, since the age of 21, his trucks have been Scanias since 1996.
He’s bought one of the first new XT model Scania trucks on hire purchase with Scania Financial Services through West Pennine Trucks at Stoke On Trent
David is director of D W Brown Ltd, based at Leek in Staffordshire, that he runs with wife Dawn, franchised to Tarmac with some high profile venues in the portfolio.
The track record includes golden tarmac for the Olympic Park and red for resurfacing London’s Mall in preparation for Prince William’s wedding.
He said of his new XT: “I am very impressed with this superb automatic tipper truck, with the Scania service, the finance and delivery from the dealership. Best trucks, best people. Love it!
“Area Sales Manager Darren Mottram and West Pennine Trucks are a fantastic team to deal with.”
His tipper is worked hard and so reliability and economy are crucial. Operating out of Tarmac sites within Staffordshire and Derbyshire, a vehicle that can cope with 'the hills' is a must.
Contracts cover the country, from green tarmac for golf courses, and more conventional Tarmac for the highways of Britain.
Now with Peter in the business there will be a call for more new trucks in the future.
“And the next one will be a Scania because no-one else offers the same comprehensive service. Scania have always been really helpful with first rate service,” said David.
