CLASSIC SCANIA BUS TAKES ON THE WORLD
After 33 years and more than half a million kilometres in active service a Scania K112 is now trekking around the world.
It returned to its point of origin in Södertälje from where the Vandoorslaert family fixed it up and boarded for a five year global tour.
Jean-François and Charlotte Vandoorslaert and their three children Charles, Louise and Victoria, aged 10, 9 and 1, along with their dog, Lily.
The family has visited 19 European countries since last summer and will wrap up the continent in July when they will prepare for a two-year tour of Canada and the United States.
The bus was a wreck when bought by Jean-François. “I renovated it, built the interior into a liveable space. Everyone thought I was crazy, but it makes sense to drive an old bus since it’s simple to repair if anything fails.”
The Scania K112 chassis body was built by Belgian Jonckheere as its Bermuda model. To help with repairs Jean-François has two Dutch language handbook volumes for 2-series Scania trucks to guide him.
