FINANCIAL COMPANY ACCOUNTANT

Business area: Accounts
Location: Milton Keynes
Reporting to: Financial Controller
Permanent | Full-time

Overview:

The main responsibilities of the Financial Company Accountant are, deputy to the Financial Controller, overseeing the external reporting, tax and projection team including two Financial Accountants and a Reporting Accountant. Assist in the preparation of statutory reporting for SFGB and SFIE, providing guidance where needed and overseeing all internal projects that involve input from Accounts. Regular review of all balance sheet reconciliations produced by the team. Assisting in monthend reporting processes such as buyback reporting, IFRS9 and bad debt. Reporting into the Financial Controller.

Responsibilities:

Deputy to the Financial Controller

  • Provide cover and support for the Financial Controller when required
  • Attend relevant meetings as needed
  • Assist in supporting the full Accounts team
  • Keep up to date with department changes and activities to have a helicopter view of the Accounts function

Oversee the external reporting, tax and projection team

  • Oversee the two Financial Accounts and Reporting Accountant, take ownership of all relevant areas including projection reporting, statutory reporting, tax and VAT reporting and overseeing projects
  • Provide assistance, guidance and cover where needed to the team
  • Ensure regular meetings are held to provide and receive updates from the team

Balance sheet reconciliations

  • Take ownership of reviewing all balance sheet reconciliations on a monthly basis, having one to one meeting’s with the team to review recs and any outstanding balances that need addressing
  • Ensure regular meetings are pre-booked
  • Develop and maintain a process for review and monitoring the reconciliations
  • Review with the Financial Controller for sign off

Projection reporting

  • To oversee and assist in the SFGB and SFIE projections reporting
  • Provide an internal department check of the projections before they are passed to the Executive Team for review and approval
  • Promote in HFM once all figures are finalised and reported
  • Assist in the commentary reporting

Head Office reporting requirements 

  • To review the monthly GFR reporting guidance from Head Office for each month-end, noting any reporting changes, liaising with the Financial Controller and communicating requirements out to the team in a timely manner

Projects

  • To oversee any Accounts related projects, providing support, guidance and input from an Accounts perspective
  • To get involved with adhoc requests as and when they arise, assisting the team with new process requirements
  • Be the main contact for any external projects which require involvement from Accounts

IFRS 9 and bad debts reporting

  • Responsible for the reporting of SFGB’s IFRS 9 and bad debt reporting to Head Office
  • To liaise with Head Office and our Credit team where required for accurate and timely reporting

Buyback reporting

  • To report the buyback intercompany figures liaising with Commercial Operations to ensure accurate and timely reporting
  • To liaise with Commercial Operations regarding the monthly reconciliations
  • Work with our Sales Support team to ensure reconciliation differences are addressed and fixed

Desirable experience & qualifications
  • ACCA or CIMA qualified. Part qualified or equivalent will be considered depending on experience
  • Relevant business knowledge and experience in a similar role
  • Strong knowledge and experience around tax and VAT
  • Leadership skills and experience
  • Demonstrate expertise of Excel and finance house systems
  • Effective written/verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrate a keen eye for detail and accuracy
  • Efficient, organised and proactive
  • Fluent in English
