The main responsibilities of the Financial Accountant are the external reporting processes relating to our Scania Finance Great Britain Limited business unit along with various internal reporting requirements. The role will include statutory reporting and will be the main contact for VAT, IPT and tax, including liaising with HMRC and external consultants. Internal projection reporting, ONS surveys, insurance reporting and internal project work. Reporting into the Financial Company Accountant.


Statutory reporting

  • Review the SFGB accounts and prepare them in the format required for statutory reporting
  • Liaise with the UK Management Accountant regarding the information reported and available
  • Review disclosures and relevant accounting standard changes with guidance from our external auditors
  • Liaise with our external auditors to review draft accounts to get a finalised draft prepared
  • Once finalised obtain authorised signatories and file with Companies House


  • Liaise with our external tax consultants to assist in the preparation of the tax computation for inclusion in the statutory accounts
  • The main contact for any tax related queries including corporation tax, deferred tax, insurance premium tax and VAT
  • Coordinate with various departments when tax related queries arise in projects, new products, invoice queries etc. Provide guidance and advice
  • The main contact for external sources relating to all tax aspects
  • Work with Head Office for the annual GTC reporting requirements


  • Review the VAT postings and prepare and submit the VAT return on a quarterly basis
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting and submission of the VAT return
  • Review and ensure accurate accounting of VAT throughout the business
  • Monitor changes in VAT rules such as change in VAT rates
  • Be the main contact for any VAT related queries

Projection reporting

  • Coordinate with the SFGB sales team to obtain projected sales numbers for reporting in the quarterly projections and annual plan to Head Office
  • Review the projections process where needed to improve accuracy
  • Liaise with the executive team on the projected and plan numbers to get the sign off for reporting
  • Ensure timely reporting of the projections and plan along with the required commentary

Insurance reporting

  • Maintain the insurance balance sheet reconciliations. To be reconciled on a monthly basis
  • Liaise with our insurance team with regard to reporting requirements for month-end to Head Office. Update the relevant HFM forms for submission


  • To assist in any accounts related projects, providing representation, guidance and input from an Accounts perspective
  • To get involved with adhoc requests as and when they arise, assisting the team with new process requirements
  • Be one of the main contacts for any external projects which require involvement from Accounts

Office for National Statistics surveys

  • Take ownership of all Accounts related Office for National Statistics surveys, ensuring these are updated and submitted within the deadlines set by ONS

Team cover

  • Assist the Financial Company Accountant and Financial Accountant and Financial Accountant where needed and provide holiday cover
  • Assist the wider Accounts team where needed

Desirable experience & qualifications
  • ACCA or CIMA qualified. Part qualified or equivalent will be considered depending on experience
  • Relevant business knowledge and experience in a similar role
  • Strong knowledge and experience around tax and VAT
  • Tax qualification would be desirable
  • Demonstrate expertise of Excel and finance house systems
  • Effective written/verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrate a keen eye for detail and accuracy
  • Efficient, organised and proactive
  • Fluent in English
