Active safety is all about making the driving of your truck as secure as possible, with the aim of minimising road risks, collisions and other incidents that could lead to injury. Passive safety focuses on design aspects that minimise the consequences resulting from a collision.

Passive safety

Immediate response

Scania brake pads consist of a unique friction material optimised for the patented alloy in the brake disc, which ensures maximum service life with consistent braking behaviour. New brake callipers, allied with improved brake actuation and the more advanced position of the front axle, greatly improve the braking distance of the new truck generation.

See it before it happens

A Scania cab offers unobstructed and panoramic views of the front and sides. Slimmer A-pillars, lower side windows and instrument panel, combined with adjustable driver position, contribute to enhanced visibility for the driver. During the darker hours you can choose to dim the dashboard lights.
When driving at night, automatically levelling halogen headlights, position lights, direction and side indicators improve safety. High-mounted spot lamps are incorporated into the sun shield, while auxiliary lighting includes fog and spot lamps for adverse weather conditions.

Camera systems with full-frontal display monitors are available for an even wider and more centred field of vision.

Rollover airbags

High crash standards

The structure of Scania’s entire cab range offers outstanding crash performance and includes structural integrity, instrument positioning and dispersion of impact forces. It also significantly reduces the risk of a car ending up under the vehicle in the event of a collision.

Swedish crash test standards are among the most stringent in the world. Our new generation has surpassed them with ease and the new cab structure offer an outstanding crash performance.

Side curtain airbag

Scania’s roll-over airbag targets one of the most serious consequences of rollover accidents, where drivers or passengers are injured in a collision or fatally crushed by their own vehicle.

Available in Scania’s new P, G, R and S-cabs as well as in the CrewCab.

Thanks to generations of thorough research, design and testing, Scania vehicles have proven to be exceptionally safe. This is in no small part due to the wide array of innovative safety and support systems in each Scania vehicle.

On the dashboard the drivers receive live feedback from Scania's Driver Support tool, showing drivers how braking, acceleration and gear-shifting affect fuel consumption and road safety.

The attention support is a practical aid that monitors the driver's attention level. The function issues a warning and reminds the driver when it is time to take a break. This function is based on elements such as lane-keeping, unusual steering movements, driving and rest times from the tachograph and the time of day.

Scania's lane departure warning is a practical aid that warns the driver if the vehicle is about to cross the road markings. The system automatically detects the road markings and advises the driver when the vehicle combination is too close to the oncoming lane or verge/ditch markings.

Scania EBS (electronic braking system) gives you the best possible control of your braking. It provides instantaneous brake response with immediate application and release in direct proportion to pedal pressure. EBS greatly enhances stability in all conditions and eliminates much of the unnecessary stress associated with emergency stops. Such an immediate, balanced and stable response is not possible with even the most sophisticated pneumatic arrangement.

AEB is an advanced emergency braking system that uses camera and radar to register what is happening in front of the vehicle. The purpose of the system is, as far as possible, to prevent a collision with the vehicle in front.

Scania ESP (electronic stability program) greatly increases driving safety by monitoring key stability parameters and automatically triggering appropriate controls. Emergency situations or inappropriate speed can sometimes result in vehicle instability. This is especially hazardous for tractor-semitrailer combinations, where even momentary loss of driver control could have disastrous and very expensive consequences. Scania ESP is designed to work on wet or slippery roads, where under- or oversteering often occurs, and on dry roads, where the main risk is a roll-over resulting from excessive speed or adverse camber on bends.

Scania TPM (tyre pressure monitoring) is a safety system that alerts the driver if the tyre pressure drops in any of the vehicle’s tyres. This helps to constantly ensure optimum rolling resistance, which translates into better operating economy and reduced tyre wear. It helps you to act to prevent accidents and body damage, and it also saves a lot of fuel.

For added safety, visibility and convenience. Our front-view camera automatically starts at speeds below 30 km/h, providing you with a clear, unobstructed view of your immediate surroundings. For a more complete perspective, your vehicle can also be equipped with a rear-view camera. In both cases, display monitors are located directly in front of the driver. This ensures a wider field of vision, free from rear blind spots and neck craning. Whether reversing, docking or manoeuvring through tight spaces, safe handling is rarely this satisfying, or this simple.

Responsible drivers save lives and an increasing number of operators and transport buyers are demanding sobriety checks for drivers in every step of their supply chain. Scania offers alcolock preparation ex-factory, for easy fitting of the desired type of device. An alcolock requires the driver to breathe through a mouthpiece when starting the engine. If alcohol is detected in the exhaled air, the starter will be blocked. To easily adapt to local laws and regulations, the settings are available without restriction.

Area view HD 360° camera system

Our Area View Camera System helps you get a clear view of every situation. With four wide-angle 720p HD cameras that work together to cover the front, rear and sides of the vehicle, you’ll have full 360° visibility in every direction.

C-ME vest

The award-winning Scania C-ME Vest enables a new level of driver roadside safety. Engineered with Light Flex Technology and integrated sensors, the vest automatically lights up when the driver exits the cab in low-light conditions. With implemented smartphone connectivity, it sends an alert, including GPS location, if the driver is hurt. Join us and take part of new roadside safety standards today.

Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)

With ACC, a minimum cruise distance can be manually set by the driver. The truck will then maintain your cruising speed until you catch up with a slower vehicle; it’ll then slow down the truck to match the other vehicles speed, keeping the pre-set gap between you. When traffic clears in front of you, it’ll resume your chosen cruising speed. It’s cruise control made safer and easier.
