SERVICE EXPERTS FROM AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND ADVANCE TO SCANIA TOP TEAM WORLD FINALS

THE SOUTHERN STARS AND THE KIWIS SERVICE TEAMS FROM SCANIA WORKSHOPS IN AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND CAME OUT ON TOP IN THE ASIA AND OCEANIA REGIONAL ROUND OF SCANIA’S TOP TEAM COMPETITION. BOTH TEAMS WILL NOW COMPETE IN THE WORLD FINALS IN SÖDERTÄLJE, SWEDEN IN NOVEMBER.

The members of the Southern Star service team all work at Sidney workshop in Australia. The team consists of Phil Sage, Graham Andrews, Michael Farrell, Logan Hoser and Benn Jeffery.

Members of the Kiwis finished in second place and work at Whangarei workshop in New Zealand. The team consists of Scott Cann, Michael Adams, Gavin Brindle, John Burhenne and Shane Parker.

Craig Pygall and Ross Wallace, Training coordinators from Australia and New Zealand say they are extremely proud their teams have made it the world finals. “They have put in many hours of training and have really developed their expertise and teamwork throughout the different stages of the competition. We both hope that the success of these skilled technicians will inspire young people to look into a career in this sector.”

Scania Top Team is a competition-based training programme. True to Scania’s philosophy of continuous improvement, it has been developed from a national training event 23 years ago into today’s global programme.

Scania Top Team 2012-2013 is the eighth such event at the international level and it is the biggest yet. An estimated 8,000 participants from over 60 countries will be trained in service-related theory and practice at Scania workshops worldwide.

The aim of Top Team is to develop the skills of Scania’s service personnel, while helping them to enhance and increase their knowledge, professionalism and customer focus. It is also all about encouraging exceptional teamwork.

“Lifelong training and innovation are important parts of the Swedish culture. Sustainable transport solutions are worth nothing if we don’t keep the vehicles on the road and here Scania service technicians are doing a fantastic job.” says Klas Molin, Swedish Ambassador to Thailand, who was present for the finals.

The ultimate goal is for Scania workshops worldwide to provide services that support customers’ business. This requires highly proficient service staff. Scania Top Team is also an important way of promoting safety, health and environmental issues.

“We set up Top Team to encourage our service personnel to strive for excellence and to build their knowledge of Scania’s products and working tools,” says Thomas Bertilsson, Managing Director, Scania Academy. “However, it is also about putting the spotlight on the unsung heroes who work tirelessly in Scania workshops to provide exceptional levels of service to our customers. Top Team gives them the chance to shine and to get the recognition they deserve.”

Today’s final saw the two teams put through their paces. They were faced with a full day of practical challenges that tested their ability to find and fix problems on a Scania product within a limited period. The team’s engineering, electronic and technology expertise, coupled with a thorough understanding of Scania products and cohesive teamwork, gave them the edge over their competitors.

The world finals take place on 20-23 November 2013 at Scania in Södertälje, Sweden.
