SCANIA EURO 6

First to comply to new standards

A pioneering family business

In 2012 the Portmann brothers bought and registered the first Scania Euro 6 vehicle in France. Today, they keep investing to comply with new standards, and they literally have millions of reasons to do so.

Transports Portmann is a family business. The brothers currently managing it are the third generation to take the company forward. More than 600 people work at Transports Portmann’s 16 locations throughout Europe. The head office is in Mulhouse, eastern France. The fleet consists of 450 vehicles, including 150 semitrailers of all kinds: curtain-side, refrigerated, container and walking floor.

“We bought the first Scania Euro 6 in France, it has excellent fuel consumption figures,” says Benoit Portmann. “It’s equipped with a full range of accessories as well – fairings, tyres that meet the latest standard, automatic transmission and so on – and it all works very, very well.”

The Portmann brothers have always been pioneers when it comes to purchasing vehicles that comply with the latest standards. Being located close to the Swiss and German borders means that emission-related issues become very interesting, from both a legislative as well as an economic point of view.

“Our first Scania Euro 6 vehicle has almost 100,000 km on the clock, which is a good return. The fuel consumption figures average below 30 or 29 litres per 100 km – this is almost two litres less than the overall average for our fleet.

Saving two litres out of every 100 km means a cost saving of around € 1.5 million for our business,” says Benoit Portmann.

“Scania’s vehicles have always been reliable and economical, and their service network is extensive in Europe.”
