Innovation boosting uptime

Scania invests significantly in world-leading research and development. The customers demand reliable and innovative solutions that boost vehicle uptime.

Following the successful introduction of the company’s Euro 6 engine range, Scania’s focus continues to be on low-emission transport solutions. In the near future, the company will also increase its focus on alternative fuels and hybridisation.

Scania’s capacity for innovation is growing as a result of its ongoing collaboration with universities, research institutions, suppliers, customers and other partners. This allows for to foster an innovative culture, to ensure the skills needed for future growth and development, and to promote ideas for achieving more sustainable transport solutions. Scania collaborates with Sweden’s KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Chalmers University, and universities in Luleå and Linköping, among others. Another important asset is having access to the Volkswagen Group’s global development network.

With the benefits Scania gains from working with Volkswagen and academic partners, the company is able to respond faster to trends and new technological developments and, as a result, quickly find solutions. The technological leadership relies on collaboration with the right partners.

Understanding customers’ daily operations is crucial. As a worldwide player, Scania must adapt global solutions to specific market needs. In new markets and segments with distinct operating conditions, the focus may be on adapting existing products to local requirements, such as specific driving distances or capacity utilisation. Or it may be on developing new products. Energy resources and energy policies vary from country to country, and this means that Scania needs to have a high degree of flexibility and be willing to offer a wide range of solutions.

The field of connected vehicles gives valuable input for Scania´s research and development. Collecting data makes it possible to analyse vehicle performance under a wide range of operating conditions. Data can also be used to analyse driver behaviour for use in developing new Advanced Driver Assistance Systems.
