In the Czech Republic, top place in the national final of the Young European Truck Driver competition went to Michal Kyral. His win coincided with Scania’s celebrating 20 years in the country and the inauguration of a new service point.
The 2014 Young European Truck Driver, Scania’s driver competition for heavy truck drivers, attracted close to 400 participants in the Czech Republic. Of these, only 10 made it all the way to the national final, which took place on 5 July at Scania’s new service point in Jihlava, strategically located along the motorway between Prague and Brno.
An appreciative crowd watched Michal Kyral, Roman Kůřil, Petr Kopecký and Josef Anderle compete in the Knock the King event. Kopecký had represented the Czech Republic in the 2012 European final. Despite his experience, he was beaten by Kyral, who kept his cool and performed best under stress.
Michal Kyral comments on his performance:
“In the morning session I had a strange feeling, especially in Driving Skills, where I made a mistake. In contrast, I managed quite well in First Aid – better than I expected. Check Before Driving was easy for me. I have driven Scania trucks for 10 years, so I know where to look.”
