Tabouvatzis Vasilis has successfully defended his champion’s title in the Greek national final of Scania’s Young European Truck Driver competition.
The Greek final saw 25 skilled drivers compete for a slot in the European final which will be held in Södertälje, Sweden in April 2015. More than 100 spectators travelled to the venue – a Scania workshop close to Thessaloniki – to support their favourite driver.
In addition to a number of manoeuvring challenges, the drivers were required to demonstrate fuel-efficient driving using Scania Driver Support, a real-time support system that provides drivers with hints and feedback to help them refine their driving styles.
After the two days of competition, Vassilis Tabouratzis, 35, from Thiva managed to defend his title.
Skilled and experienced
“I’m really happy I could defend my title,” Tabouratzis said after the victory. “I think Knock the King is the hardest part. I’ll prepare myself for the final at work. I will do my best to bring the first prize, a Scania Streamline truck, to Greece.”
Tabouratzis work involves the local transport of concrete.
