The Slovak national champion for Scania’s Young European Truck Driver competition waited six years for glory.
Marian Maliar finally did it.
On his third attempt, the 35-year-old succeeded in being crowned Slovak national champion in Scania’s Young European Truck Driver competition. He’s now planning on bringing his brother Peter, who finished third, to the European final in April 2015.
Worth waiting for
Maliar had previously participated in the Young European Truck Driver competition on two occasions, meaning he waited six years to reach the European final of the truck driver competition. “It was worth the wait,” he said after his win.
At the Slovak final, Maliar outperformed nine competitors to become the top performer in manoeuvring, check-before-driving and first aid.
The Slovak final took place at the Scania dealer centre in Senec, some 30 kilometres east of Bratislava.
Maliar works as a driver for a long-haulage company and regularly drives internationally. His best discipline is precision manoeuvring.
Maliar is looking forward to “a wonderful atmosphere in the great European final”.
