Croatia’s best under-35 driver is Saša Hlišć. On Saturday, the 34 year-old truck driver won the first-ever YETD Croatian final.
On a sunny spring day, some 200 customers, friends and family spent the day watching the fiercely competitive final in Zagreb. Eight drivers from all over Croatia matched skills in Fire & Rescue, Boardwalk and – of course – the classic YETD Knock the King stage, which lifted Saša Hlišć to the top rung of the podium.
“I’m very grateful that we, the drivers, get attention in our profession with events and competitions such as YETD; it’s important and I’m glad Scania does it,” Saša Hlišć said when he was announced as winner.
Starting his truck-driving career at the age of 18, Hlišć, from Čakovec in northern Croatia, has now worked 14 years for the same transport company.
”Both my father and grandfather have been driving trucks their whole lives. It runs in the family and now my father and I are colleagues.”
One month ahead of the final, Hlišć is looking forward to the event in Södertälje.
“I feel confident in the Cargo Securing exercise – don’t write that! – but what I’m really looking forward to is the Super Z. I really hope I get that far.”
