The buses that body builder Gen-Chen creates using Scania chassis are the choice of some of Taiwan’s top sporting stars. Now, cooperation between these two automotive partners has deepened, with Scania supplying an additional 100 units to Gen-Chen.
Gen-Chen Bus Body Building is known for the high quality of its buses and it relies exclusively on Scania chassis. The company has worked with Scania since the early 1990s, and in recent years Scania has been its sole chassis partner.
Now the company has signed a contract to take an additional 100 units of Scania’s K400 bus chassis. The chassis will be delivered during 2015-2016.
Chen Horn-Ho is Chairman of Gen-Chen. “Scania has built a strong name for itself in the Taiwanese bus market over the past 30 years,” he says. “Our customers appreciate the way that Scania Taiwan has extended its service network. This increases convenience and means that they have the best possible back up for their competitive businesses. The newly established Tainan workshop, in particular, offers nearby back-up service for us.”
Gen-Chen’s Scania coaches boast 400 hp Euro 5 engines and normally seat 45 passengers. Scania’s Euro 5 coaches have become the best-selling buses in the high-end coach and intercity market in Taiwan. More than 550 Scania K400 coaches have put on roads since they were introduced in 2013.
Managing Director of Scania Taiwan Per Lilljequist says Scania had a record year in Taiwan in 2014, with 623 units ordered and 367 units registered.
