Record turn-out for driver competitions

Scania Driver Competitions has attracted a record-breaking 100,000 entrants for its 2014/2015 season making it the world’s largest truck driving and training event.

Mikael Person, General Manager, Scania Driver Competitions, is delighted by the figures. “We’re happy that so many truck drivers have been attracted to the competition,” he says. “It shows that they’re eager to demonstrate their outstanding skills to their friends, families and to the rest of the world.”

Scania’s competition-like driver training events have been successfully staged all over the world. A key factor behind this year’s record numbers is believed to be the desire of drivers to represent their home countries and to compete against their friends.

Scania Driver Competitions has been arranged since 2003 and aims to highlight the important role played by truck drivers in focus areas including fuel-efficiency and road safety.

“We’re really trying to measure the kinds of skills that are useful in drivers’ working lives and also valuable to our customers,” Person says.

The European final is fast approaching, with the best Young European Truck Driver to be crowned on Saturday 25 April in Södertälje, Sweden. The final will be streamed live at
