Rental truck behind success

Sergey Titkin prepared for his participation in the Young European Truck Driver competition thoroughly by renting a Scania truck from a local dealer. He will represent Russia in the European final in April 2015.

Sergey Titkin, 33, from Starozhilovo, situated some 200 kilometres southwest of Moscow, finished first in the YETD 2014 Russian national final. Titkin has worked as a driver for 14 years; the past three years he’s owned his own company, transporting goods all over Russia.

Thorough preparation

Titkin was not familiar with Scania trucks, so he rented a Scania truck from a local dealer for a week before the YETD competition. He found the fuel-efficient driving the most difficult adjustment. “I wasn’t used to manual gearchanging with an Opticruise lever,” he says.

In addition to renting the Scania, he also built his own track to practice manoeuvring.

Titkin’s preparations paid off. He finished first after having completed Fuel-efficient driving (apparently he mastered the Opticruise), Check before driving, First aid and three manoeuvring events: Parallel slalom, Knock the King and Super Z. Titkin will represent Russia in the European final in April 2015.

Evgeny Sorokin, Sergey Titkin and Yuri Zelenev entered the podium after the Russian national YETD 2014 final.
