"We will not compromise on sustainability"

The 29th of April 2020 was a very big day at Scania. We announced that we have set our science based climate targets. These targets have been approved by the Science Based Target initiative which is a joint initiative of the Carbon Disclosure Project, the UN Global Compact, the World Resources Institute and World Wildlife Fund.

Scania is an engineering company and we make choices solidly anchored in science. So we decided that this is the right way forward for us and responded to the call for business to step up and take bolder actions in tackling climate change.

Scania is an engineering company and we make choices solidly anchored in science. So we decided that this is the right way forward for us and responded to the call for business to step up and take bolder actions in tackling climate change.

And our ambition is bold. We have not only set targets on direct and indirect emissions from our own operations, we also set targets on ourselves for when our products are in use. This means we will work close with our customers in operating their vehicles and fleets with less climate impact.

Given that well over 90% of the CO2 emissions generated in our business occurs after the products leave the factories, it is simply not enough to limit ourselves to only reducing our own emissions and not including the scope of where most of the emissions happen.

We will not compromise on sustainability. Driving the shift towards a sustainable transport system is Scania’s purpose and we remain fully committed.
