Preem Petroleum buys 170 Scania Interactor 500 on-board PCs for installation in their entire fleet of tanker vehicles. The PCs will be used in Preem’s distribution operations in Sweden and deliveries will take place during 2004.
To make the use of their vehicles more efficient, Preem will invest in a new advanced order handling system developed and supplied by PSI Systems AB. Scania’s partner for the supply of on-board PCs on the Swedish market is Fleetech AB. Fleetech will deliver the PCs to PSI Systems, as well as software services developed by Scania.
The on-board PCs are of the type Scania Interactor 500, which is part of the latest range of fleet management services from Scania, introduced in conjunction with the launch of Scania’s new truck range, the R-series. The Scania Interactor 500 has been developed for installation in other truck makes as well.
“The deal with Preem shows that Scania’s strategy to develop its fleet management services on an open platform is appreciated by customers, since they can run their own Windows-based applications on our system,” says Joel Granath, responsible for Fleet Management Business at Scania.
Scania’s platform, with its Windows 2000 operating system, is unique on the market. This operating system enables simple installation of third-party software.
Scania’s applications have been developed to support the driver’s work with functions like GSM/GPRS telephone, messaging, GPS positioning, map service, office applications, etc. The system also offers the possibility to connect via the Internet to the Scania Fleet Management Portal, as well as various entertainment options.
