2016: Scania joins the world’s first cross-border truck convoys

Three extra-long trucks left from Scania in Södertälje, Sweden, to drive in a close convoy to Rotterdam, the Netherlands. The initiative, driven by the Netherlands (holders of the EU presidency Jan – Jul 2016), aims to fast-track the development of truck convoys. These convoys have the potential for increasing safety, as well as reducing fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions in all long-haulage road transport operations. Scania takes part as one of several stakeholders in this European Truck Platooning Challenge. The Challenge is the world’s first cross-border initiative of its kind. The project is also supported by ACEA, the European Automobile Manufacturers Association. The objective is to accelerate the development of convoy-driving corridors within Europe, to increase cross-border cooperation, and to pave the way for EU legislative changes.
