1974: Improved physical working environment

To address high personnel turnover, particularly in the chassis assembly workshop in Södertälje, Scania makes major efforts to improve the physical working environment to make shop-floor work more attractive. As an example, “group-assembly” is introduced, in which a small group of workers is assigned the responsibility of building complete engines from start to finish. Results are promising, and with the improvements, women begin making inroads to what was once a male-dominated workplace.
