1973: Approaching the double-decker market

In cooperation with British bodybuilder Metro-Cammel Weymann Ltd (MCW), Scania approaches the British double-decker market with the new BR111 DH model. Many features make it more modern than the domestic competitors: a monocoque body with a low floor, a powerful engine, an automatic transmission and air suspension. Although the ride comfort receives favourable comments, the fact that the chassis are imported creates bad blood at a time when the British bus industry is ailing. In all, 133 BR111 single-decker chassis and 663 BR111 DH double-decker versions (including 164 for London Transport) are supplied between 1971 and 1978.
