1922: Successful engine design

August Nilsson, a talented designer, patents a new carburettor which improved reliability and fuel economy. Nilsson’s engine designs are one crucial reason why Scania-Vabis is successful in the truck market during the 1920s. The following year, he designs a compact four-cylinder overhead valve engine that develops 60 hp after fine-tuning when burning a benzol-alcohol fuel mixture. This fast-accelerating, reliable and fuel-efficient engine is a great success both in trucks and buses.
