Scania orders for January-August up by 20%

Combined European orders for Scania trucks in January-August 1997 rose by 20% compared with the same period in 1996. This emerged from an analyst and media meeting held by Scania today, Tuesday, in Stockholm.

Orders received in July and August 1997 were up over 70% on the corresponding period last year. Among other factors, the exceptional volume of orders received during these two months is due to higher sales in Britain, where increased prices will apply from 1 September.

"The trend in Europe so far in September is more or less consistent with the accumulated trend since the beginning of the year", commented Urban Erdtman, Senior Vice President Sales and Marketing Europe at Scania.

However, the upswing in the European market has not yet been reflected by deliveries due to the four to six-month interval between order and delivery.

"This means that our figures for the third quarter will not mirror the increase in truck orders since last spring to any significant extent," Urban Erdtman said at the meeting.
