Scania celebrates a strong start to Truck Rental in Australia

After just three months, initial expectations are already exceeded.

The innovative Scania Truck Rental business has got off to a flying start in Australia with a higher than expected level of demand requiring the company to double the size of the rental fleet early in the new year.

The Scania Truck Rental business offers a range of Scania Prime Movers. They are available for short-to-medium term hire, from between 1 and 24 months.

Scania Australia is the first manufacturer to offer in-house national truck rental to Australian trucking companies.

All vehicles in the rental fleet are Euro 5 compliant and comprise a selection of Scania Sleeper Cab models.

“We have been particularly successful in the b-double market with our new Scania Truck Rental offering,” said Roger McCarthy, Managing Director of Scania Australia.

“Interest from single trailer users has been similarly high.

“The offer has been eagerly accepted by a wide cross-section of transport operators, from logistics and supply chain companies to the consumer market, for example in the supermarket distribution sector,” Roger said.

“We have vehicles out with milk transporters, parcel delivery specialists as well as general freight contractors.

“We envisage strong steady growth continuing into 2011 as the product offer becomes more widely known, and operators who experience peak or seasonal demand realise they can turn to Scania for cost-effective premium quality vehicles to bolster their standing fleet.

“We have found truck rental business within our existing customer base, as well as from those who do not currently purchase our products. This is in line with Scania’s experience overseas and our pre-launch research findings here.

“The level of interest across the three states where we currently offer Scania Truck Rental, Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland has been encouraging, and we will roll out this product along the eastern seaboard,” Roger said.

A range of Scania Prime Mover models are available, with rental agreements structured to meet the diverse needs of the market and to give the customer optimum flexibility.

Scania’s unique customer benefits include vehicle registration fees and nationwide roadside cover through Scania Assistance. So customers only need to add fuel, drivers and insurance cover.

All Scanias in the truck rental fleet will have a maximum of a 24-month age profile.

They will be maintained in prime condition by the Scania factory-owned network.

“The launch of Scania Truck Rental is another product introduction to the Scania Total Transport Solution concept which seeks to provide a full purchase-to-disposal life-cycle service for fleets large and small. It is further proof that Scania is redefining transport in Australia,” Roger said.
