Scania Complete Vehicles arrive Ready Built

Following the successful preview of the Scania Complete Vehicles concept at the Queensland Truck and Machinery Show in May 2009, Scania announces the concept has been further extended.

Scania presented an 8x4 twin-steer Hyva Hooklift concept at the 2009 Brisbane show, which has since been eagerly accepted by the market.

The vehicle arrives from Europe with the Hyva hook already attached and is ready to go to work once the usual pre-delivery inspection and registration work is completed by the Scania Branch.

This cuts waiting time for customers who are able to begin using their vehicle to generate income from Day One, and is true to the Scania maxim of “Maximum Uptime”.

Joining the Hyva Hooklift in the Scania Complete Vehicles range is the new Scania Curtainsider.

Traditionally, customers would wait for a chassis to arrive in Australia, before sending it to the selected body builder. The vehicle would then await raw materials and a production slot, which could add weeks to the delay before the completed vehicle could start work.

Now, the Scania Complete Vehicles concept triggers the commissioning of a Curtainsider body with the approved body builder at the same time as the chassis order is lodged with the factory.

By keeping the body supplier apprised of the progress of the chassis through the manufacturing and shipping process, the body is ready for mounting as soon as the chassis arrives in Australia.

Again, the benefit for the customer is that Scania runs the entire process, so there is just one point of contact for both the chassis and the body.

In support of the one-stop shop service, the Scania factory-owned Branches and their highly trained technicians and well-equipped workshops, are able to service the body and chassis in one place, reducing downtime for the customer still further.

In 2010, Scania Australia is offering the Scania Complete Vehicles Ready Built Hyva Hooklift option in three 8x4 twin-steer guises: as the P 360, P 400 and G 440, all of which are fitted as standard with the already well-established P-series low datum Day Cab or the new G-series Day Cab.

The new 13-litre Scania XPI EGR Euro 5 engine is mated to the new Scania Opticruise gear shifting system, and drives through the 3.42 rear axle.

The new Scania Complete Vehicle Ready Built Curtainsider is based on the 280hp P-series Sleeper Cab with a rigid 6x2 chassis. It has a lifting rear axle to improve fuel economy when operating unladen.

It is powered by Scania’s 9-litre Euro 5 emission 280hp engine mated to a 12-speed gearbox controlled by the new Fully Automated Scania Opticruise gear shifter. The standard cab is the proven P-series Sleeper equipped with a single bunk.

The Scania Complete Vehicles Ready Built body features a 9.2m 14-pallet load bed; rear FRP barn doors and an aero-efficient front panel.

The Scania Complete Vehicles Ready Built Curtainsider will be offered with a buckle or buckle-free latching system for the curtains.

Both Scania Complete Vehicles concepts will be available with specific chassis configurations to special order in consultation with the company, should the standard specification offer not suit a customer’s particular needs.

Scania Australia expects that the Scania Complete Vehicles Program will be extended to incorporate bodies with a selection of tail lift solutions shortly.

All Scania Complete Vehicles Ready Built Curtainsiders are supplied with full manufacturer’s warranty cover.

“The Scania Complete Vehicles Ready Built Program is a concept that has been introduced very successfully in Europe,” says Roger McCarthy, Managing Director of Scania Australia.

“Scania Complete Vehicles offer customers reduced lead times, enabling them to optimise the benefit from their capital assets, which, in the current economic climate means they are best able to take advantage of business opportunities as they arise.

“Both the Hyva Hooklift and Curtainsider specifications have been established after extensive consultation with operators. Scania always keep the needs of its customers at the forefront of its mind.

“We are confident that Australian customers will recognise the benefits of the Scania Complete Vehicles Program,” Roger says.
