The costs of immobilisation are greater than you think: for every day your truck isn't rolling, you won't recover your fixed costs - nor make any profits. Suppose you expect a 10% profit from the truck running 280 days a year. If you lose just one day a month to unexpected standstills or repairs, you'll miss about 20% of your annual profit from a truck, unless you can compensate for it by increasing
your turnover or by raising the prices you charge your customers. If you increase the annual distance driven by a truck from 150,000 km to 180,000 km, then your fixed costs per km are reduced by 10 to 15%. |
