  Scania Outstanding operating economy

You can't starve your trucks, but anything that can help you travel further on less fuel will affect your bottom line.

Scania delivers fuel efficiency through the chassis, cab and powertrain.

Scania's aerodynamically profiled, wedge-shaped cabs minimise air resistance at the front and reduce turbulence at the edges, a special advantage in strong winds.

Precision fuel injectors control combustion in each cylinder individually. As the load on the engine changes, this controlled combustion ensures consistently low fuel usage.

The Scania turbocharger gives engine efficiency a boost even at very low revs, yielding the high torque that benefits fuel economy.

Full power from low revs and a wide usable rev range minimise gear changes, making it easier to drive economically. Improving driver technique alone has been shown to contribute 10% or more to fuel economy!

With the Scania Retarder integrated with the braking system, speed control is much easier on hilly terrain. Less braking and accelerating is needed to maintain cruising speed, contributing to fuel economy without slowing operations.

Look beyond the price tag - Fuel economy

Fuel is probably 20 - 40% of your total cost. Suppose one of your trucks is driven 150,000 km per year, and consumes 40 litres per 100 km, or 60,000 litres per year. If you replaced it with a truck that consumed only 35 litres per 100 km (12,5% less fuel) you would save 7,500 litres of fuel a year.

This means saving 37,500 litres of fuel over five years – a large tanker truck! Compare the cost of this fuel with the price of a new truck, and see what a difference it makes.
