European Road Safety Day 2007
In Europe’s ambitious project to save 25.000 lives on our roads, European Road Safety Days raise the profile of all activities and give everybody the opportunity to work towards more road safety in a truly European and global community.
The first European Road Safety Day on 27 April 2007 was a day for young people sharing experience, focusing on the themes of alcohol and drugs in traffic, and training and education. This Day had a link with the first global road safety week organised by the United Nations and the World Health Organisation, (23rd of April 2007 - 29th of April 2007).
The event in Brussels
More than 400 participants from more than 30 countries (almost all EU-Member States were represented) attended the Conference. Exhibitions (car and motorcycle simulators, a truck in front of the building of the Conference, First Aid training sessions provided by the Red-Cross) and Stands inside the building provided attendees with updated information by presenting their products and services for road safety for young people.
Young people could exchange views, up-to-date information, success stories, testimonials and network with their peers. (See the photo album)
Vice-President Jacques Barrot, Commissioner in charge of Transport, informed the Assembly about his wish to organise every year in Brussels a "Young people Conference on Road Safety", as follow-up of this first European Road Safety Day.
The event was broadcasted live on the internet.
