Scania EGR technology

Scania EGR technology

Scania enables bus operators and coach owners to comply with Euro 4, Euro 5 and EEV emission regulations and simultaneously achieve excellent fuel economy without the complexity of after-treatment and urea-based additives.

Scania bus and coach engines are equipped with Scania EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) to guarantee compliance with emissions regulations at all times and in all driving conditions, from the stop-go traffic of urban environments to long-distance cruising on the open road.

Scania EGR is a patented recirculation system that attacks emissions in the combustion chamber before they arise. A controlled amount of the exhaust flow is cooled by an EGR cooler and recirculated into the engine to achieve a lower combustion temperature that reduces nitrogen oxide emissions to the required levels. Particulate matter is handled by Scania’s high-pressure injection system for Euro 4, and by a particulate filter for EEV. No additives or extra tanks are required.

Scania EGR benefits

  • Excellent operating economy
  • Operates everywhere on standard diesel
  • No additives or extra tanks
