Stages of the Young European Truck Driver competition
The stages of the competition and their content can be summarised as follows below. Please note that each participating country will have a somewhat different schedule for the implementation of each stage.
Stage one: qualifying round
Timing: between January and May 2005
• Local invitation of drivers through wide advertising campaign (local press, local radio etc), promotion at Scania dealers, Truck Stops etc.
• First theoretical test about truck technology, traffic rules, fuel-efficient driving, dangerous goods etc.
• Selection of drivers to be invited to regional rounds
Stage two: regional rounds
Timing: between May and June 2005
• Invitation of drivers to regional rounds to centrally located Scania dealers or other suitable locations.
• Second theoretical test about truck technology, traffic rules, fuel-efficient driving, dangerous goods, first aid etc.
• Practical test: manoeuvring, fuel efficient driving.
• Selection of regional winners to be invited to the national final.
Stage three: national final
Timing: between June and August 2005 (to be completed before 1 September)
• Invitation of regional winners to national final at one centrally located national Scania facility.
• Third theoretical test about truck technology, traffic rules, fuel efficient driving, dangerous goods, working regulations, first aid, load securing etc.
• Practical test: manoeuvring, fuel efficient driving, first aid.
Stage four: European final
Timing: 16 -17 September 2005
• Invitation of national winners to the European final (held at the Scania demo facility & test track in Södertälje)
• Practical test: manoeuvring, fuel-efficient driving, defensive driving, fire fighting, load securing etc.
After the final
All European finalists will be invited to the RAI exhibition in October. Besides being awarded and given extra attention at the exhibition, the finalists will be invited to roundtable talks with young Scania technicians.
The top three winners of the European final will be invited to the Scania Transport Conference in Brussels during the autumn, in recognition of their efforts and highly skilled results.
