This was the result of the continued efforts of Scania and the Municipality of Falun to obtain replacement jobs in Falun when Scania’s European production of axles and gearboxes is concentrated in Södertälje, Sweden.
The three companies are Furnera Logistik AB and IKD IT AB, both founded at the initiative of Scania Falun employees, and Deponia AB, which was started by a group of entrepreneurs. All of them have clear plans to recruit staff mainly from among Scania employees.
“Together with the agreements we have signed with Scania’s sub-contractors, the LEAX Group and Zakrisdalsverken, we have a current forecast of at least 200 replacement jobs in Falun,” says Per Hallberg, Scania’s Head of Production and Procurement. “This shows that the good collaboration we have between Scania, the trade unions and the municipality is yielding results.”
“But we are not satisfied. Instead we are continuing our joint efforts to attract more replacement jobs on the scale that we established as our goal,” says Anders Williamsson, site manager of Scania Falun.
Companies in three business fields
The three companies that have now decided to set up operations at the Scania Falun site represent three different fields of business.
Deponia AB will manufacture oil pollution remediation equipment and is looking forward to establishing operations on the Scania site. “We have a strong product and we need access to good production skills, which we can find among Scania employees,” says Anders Runström, Managing Director of Deponia.
Furnera Logistik AB will provide logistics services and already collaborates with Timeout AB, which was the first company to establish itself at the Scania Falun site. “We see this as an attractive business opportunity, and thanks to the backing we have received from Scania’s management in Falun, it was self-evident that we should dare to invest here,” says Jan Sundström of Furnera Logistik.
IKD IT AB will supply IT support, mainly to the businesses establishing themselves at the Scania site. “The restructuring that has now begun on the Scania site, combined with our local roots, will provide opportunities and challenges that suit us,” says Peter Öhgren of PPA AB.
