Two-in one solution: truck and tractor combined

Scania R 580 6x4 with Schwarzmüller tipper-tractor equipment
Three-axle tipper with air-suspended 19-tonne double-drive hub-reduction bogie with a total ratio of 3.96. Front axle weight 7.5 tonnes. 385/80 tyres front and 13R22.5 rear. Wheelbase 3.1 m. 580-hp V8 engine, overdrive gearbox. Sleeper cab, Xenon headlights.
The three-axle vehicle can work on its own either as a single tipper or towing a three-axle low-loader trailer. It also functions as a tractor pulling a two-axle tipper semi-trailer. This means that within 30 minutes, this truck can be rebuilt into a tractor.
The three-way tipper body with a capacity of 9.6 cu m is equipped with an automatic sideboard on the left and the tailboard also hinges sideways, allowing long loads like boards to be carried. The vehicle is used throughout Germany for road and railroad construction, often hauling bulk materials and moving heavy construction machinery (GTW between 50 and 60 tonnes).

The taxi-crane: high-capacity with great mobility

Scania P 340 6x4 with Liebherr LTF-crane
Scania 6x4 or 8x4 chassis can be fitted with Liebherr LTF-cranes suitable to lift concrete elements in place. Besides its special chassis features – frame layout, width and strength – the availability of a flat-roof sleeper cab is of special importance to the bodybuilder, since no rebuilding is needed.
Standard components are used from Scania's modular component system, making the vehicle particularly economical in operation. This gives considerable cost benefits compared to Liebherr-AT (all-terrain) crane vehicles for example in terms of tyres and parts, as well as 20 percent better fuel economy.
The low weight of the complete vehicle fully equipped for the road means that the vehicle gets a §29 operating permit in Germany, adding greatly to the mobility and flexibility. Both three- and four-axle versions can run with all equipment on public roads, ready for use on arrival.
The telescopic crane – Liebherr LTF 1045-4.1 – as mounted on the Scania eight-wheeler has a maximum lifting capacity of 45 tonnes when extended 2,5 m. Maximum lift and extension are 44 and 42 metres respectively.
Krösche Kran-Service Gmbh, a company in Holzminden with more than 30 years’ experience of telescopic crane operation, recently ordered 20 Scania 6x4 and 8x4 vehicles with Liebherr LTF bodywork. The world market for taxi-cranes is forecast to amount to more than 1000 units in the next eight years, Turkey alone expected to take more than 400.

Scania P 340 4x4 with Scania CrewCab and platform body
Two-axle all-wheel-drive vehicle for combined transport of people and material in open-cast brown-coal sites. This leaf-sprung off-road truck has a public road operating permit. It is suitable for fitting, repair and maintenance work that requires a crew and tools, equipment and spare parts for the conveyor belts in the brown-coal sites.
The inline six-cylinder 340-hp engine powers the truck via a 12-speed gearbox and hub-reduction axles (4.27 total ratio) with single-mounted tyres (395/85R20).

Scania R 340 4x4 with box body
Two-axle all-wheel-drive vehicle for crew transport in open-cast brown-coal sites. The powertrain consists of an inline six-cylinder 340-hp engine, manual 12-speed gearbox and hub-reduction axles (4.27 total ratio) rated at 7.5 tonnes at the front and 13 tonnes at the rear. Single-mounted 395/85R20 tyres.
The leaf-sprung off-road bus has an operating permit for public roads. The box body with swing-open doors seats 27 persons, bringing personnel to their workplaces at the brown-coal site.
Between shifts, the all-wheel-drive ‘bus’ is used for sightseeing, transporting groups of visitors around the site.

Weight-optimised: light street tipper with a high payload

Scania R 420 6x4 with weight-optimised specification
Six-wheel tractor unit with 420-hp Euro 4-engine, Scania Retarder and Scania Opticruise, air-suspended double-drive bogie with single-reduction axles, aluminium rims and 295/80R22.5 tyres.
Scania Opticruise, the automated gearchanging system, performs particularly well when used in manual mode off the beaten track. And the clutch pedal puts the driver in full command of all 40 tonnes when manoeuvring or pulling away in difficult terrain.
On asphalt, the 6x4 tipper tractor moves like a long-haul vehicle. Putting Scania Opticruise in automatic relieves the driver of any gearchanging and clutch work. On-or off-road, the Scania Retarder always keeps the speed in check.
This tipper mainly runs between clay sites and production sites for the lime, tile, brick and building block industry. Such trips involve mileages of several hundred kilometres on motorways.

From Scania LB110 to Scania R 470 4x2
Ever since the early 1970s, the transport company Welz in Bruchsal has chosen construction vehicles from Scania. The initial model was Scania LB110, a two-axle vehicle with 280 hp.
Today the family-owned company operates 27 Scania trucks and tractor units in all. Typical regional and long-haul assignments are: bulk transport, structural steel components, concrete components as well as construction machinery.

The street soloist: 40-tonne ten-wheeler

The compact Scania R 470 10x4

The Scania R 470 10x4 ten-wheeler is the basis for a variety of applications such as tipper, mixer, bulk or hook-lift.
On demand, all axles can be equipped with “road-friendly” air suspension. Power from inline-six and V8 engines from 420 to 500 hp is transmitted via a 12-speed gearbox (on request with overdrive) to hub-reduction axles.
The air-suspended rear-steer lift axle is rated at 8.2 tonnes. The technically permissible weight of this 10x4 in Switzerland is 18 tonnes on the two steered front axles and 28 tonnes on the tri-axle rear set-up.
More than 40 Scania 10-wheelers running at a GVW of 40 tonnes are in operation in Switzerland.

Scania P 380 6x4  – manoeuvrable six-wheel skip-loader

The two-axle all-wheel-drive chassis with front parabolic springs and rear air suspension has been fitted with a rear-steer lift axle, also air suspended, rated at 8.3 tonnes. The legal gross weight is 26 tonnes (30 tonnes technically permissible).
The Scania day cab sits on top of a 380-hp Euro 4 engine with EGR technology. Thanks to the 1st and 2nd axles being driven (fitted with hub reduction), this skip-loader will find its way across rough terrain and in adverse weather conditions.
Whereas a 6x4 may tend to push the front axle outwards on tight bends, this 6x4 with front-wheel-drive and steered rear axle keeps the track impeccably.
