Scania - via its IT-development company, Scania Infotronics - launches several new concepts in this area:
- Scania Fleet Analysis System is now ready for the market. This system consists of a handheld computer in the truck that reads data from the vehicle's CAN-bus. The handheld computer can be docked to an office PC for detailed analyses
of vehicles and drivers.
- A communication module is launched for the Fleet Analysis System, enabling GSM telephone communication and GPS positioning.
- Scania Performance Analyser is a tool mainly intended for driver training. Based on the handheld computer and office software, the system logs vehicle data continuously during the run. The run can be replayed "frame-by-frame" in the
office software as feedback to the driver. This tool is mainly intended for the Scania organisation.
- Partnership between Scania and gedas. Starting in Germany, Scania enters a partnership with gedas, the VW-owned logistics company. Combining the Scania Fleet Analysis System with the gedas logiweb enables Scania to offer a complete
logistics system for truck fleets.
- Fleet Analysis Portal. Later this year Scania will open its own portal for fleet analysis. This will enable vehicle, driver and fleet data to be processed in great detail.
- Industry standard for FMS-protocol. Scania's initiative to create an open standard for vehicle data used in fleet management systems has now resulted in a common standard for the four major truck manufacturers in Europe: Scania, MAN,
Mercedes-Benz and Volvo.
