On 25 September 1997 the first French Scania OmniCity city bus rolled out of the Scania factory in Angers in western France. The event marks the start of a new era for Scania's city buses. Local assembly close to the customers is the way to cope with
specialised demands from different markets. At the same time Scania launched new models in the 4-series bus generation.
Scania attacks the French bus market
Scania now enters the French bus market in earnest. With city bus assembly in the country and a comprehensive sales organisation Scania will significantly strengthen its presence in France. "We are aiming for the same share of the bus market in
France as Scania has in the rest of Europe today," says Dieter Merz, MD of Scania France.
Focus on safety and environmental care
Scania is supplementing the 4-series with new tourist coaches and city buses, thus rounding off the 4-series bus range. Environmentally optimised Euro 2 engines are standard equipment. Scania can also supply city buses with ethanol or hybrid
power. More about Scania and the environment.
