As a leading company in its industry, it is natural for Scania to participate in the World Exposition and thus influence the development of future heavy trucks and buses. Scania is an official partner to the Nordic Pavilion, where the focus is on the best the Nordic region has to offer in terms of design and technology. Scania’s exhibits at EXPO 2005 included a Scania truck as marketed by Hino in Japan and the future design concept STAX.
HRH Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden, Thomas Östros, Minister of Industry and Trade, and Scania’s President and CEO Leif Östling were the guests of honour on "Sweden Day" at EXPO 2005. The Crown Princess and the Swedish delegation started their EXPO tour at the Nordic Pavilion, where they were greeted by some 200 guests from the Swedish friendship town Okazaki, pavilion staff and a crowd of media representatives. The delegation then went on to visit the Toyota Group Pavilion and the Japanese Pavilion.
At a press conference in the Nordic Pavilion, attended by all of Japan’s major media, HRH Crown Princess Victoria, Mr Östros and Mr Östling discussed the importance of the "harmony with nature" message, which is embedded in both EXPO 2005 and the Nordic Pavilion concept.
"It’s an honour for Scania to take part in this fantastic exhibition that has required several years of preparations," Mr Östling said.
