Scania showing intelligent solutions
During the ITS World Congress, more than 3,000 traffic researchers and decision makers from all over the world will gather in Stockholm to learn more about safer, more efficient transport. Scania will take part in the exhibition, while also supplying expertise and vehicles.
“Our focus will be on efficient transport services in everyday life, not on a bunch of gadgets,” explains Scania’s project manager Jamie Malmborg. “Intelligent transport solutions have to be well-functioning tools in order to deliver positive benefits.”
The challenges posed by climate change will permeate the world congress, whose focus will largely be on identifying efficient, integrated solutions for the four main modes of transport: road, rail, air and sea. Scania will play a visible role, both at the congress and the related arrangements.
During the congress week, Scania is making its new ethanol hybrid buses − which are currently undergoing operational trials − available for transporting delegates on their technical visits to locations around the Stockholm region.
Sustainable transport solutions
Together with Green Cargo, Scania will demonstrate a system for reloading from a railway to a specially adapted ethanol-fuelled distribution truck that Green Cargo will be operating for its customer KappAhl, a Swedish clothing retailer. In partnership with rail equipment manufacturer Bombardier – whose high-speed project train will transport delegates from Älvsjö to Södertälje Syd – there will be visits to the Scania DemoCentre in Södertälje.During the congress Hasse Johansson, Scania’s Head of Research and Development, will also participate in a discussion concerning integrated transport solutions that lower carbon dioxide emissions.
In the exhibition hall, Scania will have a large stand featuring a tractor unit and a driving simulator. In an open cab, visitors will be able to learn about support systems for road safety and fuel efficiency available to drivers. They can also view a video of a long-haul trip from Rome to Stockholm that demonstrates such support systems as tyre pressure monitoring, the electronic stability programme (ESP) and lane departure warning.
On Friday, 25 September from 9.30 a.m. to 3.00 p.m., the general public will be admitted to the congress area free of charge (minimum age 16).
