  Environmental permits

Operations at Scania’s production plants around the world have permits that comply with national legislation. The environmental impact from these facilities consists mainly of emissions to air, discharges to water, waste products and noise. In addition to legislation and the conditions included in the permits, there are also internal requirements and rules within each operation that have to be followed.

Production volume at the Falun plant is within the framework of the existing permit. An application for expanded operations is underway and it is expected to be completed during 2005.

Since 2004, operations in Katrineholm have no longer required a permit, since they have mainly been moved elsewhere. After soil inventories that showed no significant disruptions, the property was sold.

Scania has applied for a permit for the new paintshop in Meppel, which is scheduled to go into service in 2007/2008.

The Scania production unit in São Paulo is in the process of renewing its permit. The new permit is expected to be ready in 2005.

During 2004 there were no violations of the existing permit conditions. No incidents involving significant environmental side-effects or any major clean-up costs occurred.
